Vic: Govt, banks spat over ATM safety

MELBOURNE, Feb 20 AAP - The Victorian government will legislate to force banks to provide
better security outside automatic teller machines, Police and Emergency Services Minister
Andre Haermeyer said today.
Mr Haermeyer said he had "lost patience" with the banks following a meeting yesterday
when the banks refused to pilot ATM safety measures.
The measures include monitoring closed circuit tv cameras installed at popular ATMs,
improved lighting, siting and landscaping and safety audits.
