IN-FORM Stormers fullback Joe Pietersen comes across as a "shy guy", but when he steps on to the rugby field, he just explodes into action.
He is not the biggest rugby player around at 1.80m and 80kg, but what he lacks in size is countered by his big heart and courage. Pietersen has been terrific in the last line of defence since taking over from injured Springbok fullback Conrad Jantjes during last year's Super 14, and he will again be one of the main attacking weapons in Friday's clash against the Brumbies at Newlands.
Pietersen was unlucky to miss out on last November's Bok tour to Europe, but despite carrying his excellent Currie Cup form into this year's Super 14, his modest demeanour is controlling his emotions.
