Fed: Business welcomes immigration boost, but wants more
Australian business is calling on the federal government to increase net immigration
to 129,000 people a year.
The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed moves by Immigration Minister
PHILIP RUDDOCK to increase immigration for next financial year by 6,000 places to 85,000.
But its chief executive MARK PATERSON is urging the government to boost the immigration
program to an annual net intake of around 129,000 people annually.
Mr PATERSON says skilled migrants bring new skills to be shared with Australians, as
well as easing potential bottlenecks in areas where skills are in short supply.
